> Grafenberg Mountain You
can use the Grafenberg gondola to take you comfortably up to 1,700
metres above sea level. A magnificent view opens up to the surrounding
peaks and to the town of Wagrain from a bird’s perspective.
Now, the mountain adventure can really get started, because here
is the nature and mountain adventure world of “WAGRAINi’s
Grafenberg”. And this adventure world has what it takes. Travel
by raft and on rope bridges, discover the world of bees along the
theme trail, wiz down the Hachau slide to the low rope course, continue
on to the climbing stadium, to the swing forest and to the “Trail
of Fascination". Understanding nature means experiencing it
with all your senses and learning everything about the local animal
and plant world. All this is possible here. More than 30 adventure
stations guarantee many hours of amusement and new experiences.
By the way, the valley station of the Grafenberg gondola is located
approximately 500 metres outside the town centre of Wagrain in the
direction of Kleinarl.
> The Liechtensteinklamm
Just a few kilometres behind Wagrain towards St. Johann, hidden
in a small side valley, is the Liechtensteinklamm, an impressive
natural monument. It is amazing to experience how the force of the
water created such mighty shapes and chasms over the millennia.
The gorge is carved out right in the middle of Großarl Valley.
At some locations, the cliffs are so close that the sky only appears
as a small strip of light. A walk of about 20 minutes takes visitors
to a fairytale-like waterfall at the end of the gorge. On some days,
when the weather cooperates, a radiant rainbow rises above the hollow
here.
The incredible chasm was named after Duke Johann II of Liechtenstein,
whose donation of 600 guilders made it possible to develop the region.
> Lakes Jägersee and Tappenkarsee:
A well developed road takes us approximately 10 kilometres away
from Wagrain to a gem at the end of the Kleinarl Valley For fans
of secluded, primeval and romantic nature, Lake Jägersee is
one of the most beautiful places in the immediate vicinity. The
sky and mountains reflect in its clear water. Trout cavort, swans
and ducks swim majestically and happily around. If you want, you
can rent a small boat at the Jägersee Inn and row over to the
other bank. It is an idyllic place that invites you to relax away
from any stress and adventure. You can enjoy pure nature here.
Just a short distance further, at the end of the valley, you will
find another excursion destination – Lake Tappenkarsee.
> Hohenwerfen Fortress and the giant
ice caverns Approximately 40 kilometres to the south of
the city of Salzburg, visible from far away, awaits a very special
excursion destination that is rich in history. High up against the
Tennen mountain range, Hohenwerfen Fortress watches over the Salzach
Valley. The exhibitions and tours are so vivid that it almost appears
to the visitor that the Middle Ages have been awakened to a new
life. And sometimes they are able to pry a secret or two out of
the old walls. The bird of prey show at the fortress is a unique
and very popular attraction.
Hohenwerfen Fortress is easy to reach by the Tauern autobahn and
is open daily during the summer. By the way, there is a different
type of attraction not far away. The Werfen giant ice caverns are
found here, which is the largest ice cave in the world. There is
a very rare natural experience waiting to be discovered there.
